Sequence showing the installation of EPDM rubber membrane to create a durable roof surface
The EPDM rubber sheet is first rolled out on to the roof and cut to size. Rubber adhesive is then brushed on to the deck and the rubber membrane then then rolled out again, taking care to avoid any air pockets. At the sides of the roof uPVC edge caps are fitted to both help secure the membrane and to prevent rainwater run-off.
Where the roof abuts a masonry wall lead or zinc cappings are incised into brickwork joints. At the lowest end of the roof gutter trims are installed to direct rainwater into the gutters.
Where the flat roof joins to a pitched roof the first two or three rows of tiles or slates are removed in order to lap the membrane under. The tiles or slates are then re-fitted.
